Getting around Austin that week
Austin's ground transportation year is punctuated by events that behave like natural disasters: SXSW in March, the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in October, Austin City Limits across two October weekends, and the University of Texas home football Saturdays. In those weeks the city runs out of vehicles and the downtown grid closes.
Local note. SXSW and the Grand Prix each close large parts of downtown and commit every vehicle in central Texas. Both need to be booked in the preceding autumn, not the preceding month.
If the city is sold out, the nearest alternatives are within driving range: San Antonio (about 1.5 hours), Houston (about 2.5 hours), Dallas (about 3 hours). We run those legs as fixed-fare city-to-city transfers.
