Emissions
Sustainability and Electric Vehicles
An EV option where the charging infrastructure genuinely supports a full duty cycle, and an honest answer where it does not.
Where EVs are actually available
Electric sedans and SUVs are offered in the metros where charging infrastructure supports a full working day: California, the Pacific Northwest, Denver, Austin, the Northeast Corridor and South Florida. In those markets an EV can be specified on a corporate account as the default class.
Elsewhere the honest position is that a chauffeur cannot complete a twelve-hour duty cycle with long positioning legs on the charging that exists today, and we will say so rather than accept the booking and substitute a petrol vehicle on the morning.
Reporting
Corporate accounts can receive trip-level records showing vehicle class and distance, which is what a sustainability team needs to apply its own emissions factors. We do not publish a headline carbon figure of our own, because a number calculated from mixed affiliate fleets across fifty states would be a marketing claim rather than a measurement.
The things that actually reduce emissions here
- Consolidating four separate transfers into one hourly as-directed block, which removes three positioning legs
- Sizing the vehicle to the passengers and luggage rather than to the impression
- Shuttle loops instead of individual transfers for groups over about eight
- Accurate pickup timing, which removes idling at kerbs and in cell lots
- Choosing the correct airport, which is frequently a sixty-mile difference in each direction
