Before and after the sailing

Anchorage is the arrival for most Alaska cruises, and the drive to the ports is a substantial journey in its own right: Whittier is about ninety minutes through a one-lane tunnel that runs on a published schedule, and Seward about two and a half hours down the Seward Highway. Both drives are among the most scenic in North America and should be treated as part of the trip rather than a transfer.
